Default Ultra Classic cleaning ritual

Ok, here is the deal. I finally have gone from an 01 RK to an 07 UC. Like the rest of you I clean my scoot on a regular basis and meticulously. I went for a ride yesterday after cleaning her up, pulled into the garage and with "shade" from the sun, I was able to notice dried water stains inside my lenses on my speedo, tach and every other gauge. WTF? I was careful with the water while cleaning the shield and fairing. What did I screw up? I rode through a drenching Texas down pour the 1st week I had her and nothing like that showed up.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Have an 06, haven't had the water in instruments. Have you recently added windshield bags or anything like that? I added bags and had to work things a little to "reseal" the top of the fairing.

Never had the issue after several washings. Get it replaced.

Thanks for the quick replies. I think you guys are right on...back to the stealer tomorrow. There is no reason for this. I have not added anything yet, therefore should be no reason for any leakage. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Cheers,
Irish

I need to wash mine for the first time. I've never had a bike with a radio and so many other things. Can I just spray it down and wash like usual?

I dont hose my bike off. I use a three bucket method. One clean water to get the bike wet. One with soap. And a third bucket of clean water to remove the soap. Seems silly, I could just hose it down, But I clean my bike in the garage and use the hottest water from the tap. MaybeI will try the hose method, might save me some time. Takes me at least two hours to clean my'05 rk custom. But I always do it at night, after riding for the day is done.I just don't want to get water spots somewhere that I didn't know got wet. I don't know, been a long week. TGIF

Water and radios don't get along. Just wipe it down and avoid spraying it if you can

Your next set of gauges are going to do the same thing. When I had my 05 FLHTCI all the gauges had water spots in them with in the first 8 months. Went to the dealer and the warranty guy said he would replace them if it bothered me but it would happen again because the gauges are not sealed. I just left them and didn't worrry about it any more, I did however look at some other bikes and sure enought most that I looked at had the water spots. My 06 FLHTCUI has all the same spots that my 05 did, even the oil temp gauge I bought from Wally's Cycle World has water spotting in it. Most all the spotting came from taking the bike from a cool garage out into the warmer humid outdoors. As for washing it, hit it with the hose and don't sweat it because sooner or later your going to get caught in enough rain it will make a garden hose pale in comparison. Last year I got caught in a down pour that was so hard you couldn't see 3 feet in front of you, there wasn't anything on my bike that didn't get hammered with water stereo included.
