Your experience at Bumpus HD is standard procedure for them. I bought my '06 Ultra from their shop in Collierville, TN and I can't tell you how they've gone out of their way to be super nice and accomodating to my wife and I. I don't think you could find a better dealership in the country.
Yeah Bumpus (Memphis) has been very very good to me LOL!
I'm on my 3rd HD from them.
I've always really liked the Murphfreesboro shop alot too.
I saw Evel Knevel when he was there a few years back.
I was a BIG fan of his his when I was a kid.
What I like about ther shop is that it's like "Cheers" they make an effort to get to know you and build on the HD experence.
And No I don't work from them unless you call signing over my pay check for HD parts and accessories working for them.
You know maybe i do
We hear a lot of bad experiences and it is good to hear about some of the good things that our dealers and the HD people behind the counter do. It is part of why we own Harley's and it is part of the extended"family" that we enjoy. Not many families I know of get along all the time but overall they are still family and it is good to have ya'll to share with.
IMHO

Just returned from a 2500 mile road trip to Arizona. While in AZ the latch on my 07 SE Ultra tour pack lid came out of adj. and would not close. I was on my return trip to California when it happened, rolled into Arrowhead HD at 7:30 am, one hour before they opened, one of the tech's came over, got his tools, made the adjustments, and I was back on the road. This was on his own time before the store opened. Yes I will remember.

I believe in 2nd chances. plus I will need to buy another bike one day,so will not name the dealer. Story: Used bike just purchased and on my first road trip with temporary plates. Have problems and limped into HD Dealer 3 hours before they opened. Later found service dept closed all day. Hung around most of the day trying to figure what to do. Had four guys in sales walk up and closely read the temporary plates, that also said where the bike was purchased... like they were sending me a message that I did not buy from them so no extra help could be expected, one was a certified mechanic that had since become a salesman. They tagged my bike for work next day. Good part of the story: I fixed it myself after about seven hours with parts purchased over-the-counter and borrowed tools from a few HD brothers and a kid that worked in detailing... After I had it fixed, I did slip the former certified tech some $$ to do a stator voltage test to verify that it was good to go. Best part of the story: No one has touched my bike since as I determined that I needed to learn as much as I could, and learned to do all my own work from then on... I now buy parts via internet from HD, and save 20% to even 80%, and let the local dealers do what they want with their parts....
hey the dealership I go to here in Knoxville is the same way. It's similar to the TV show Cheers, as referenced by a post above this one, everyone knows your name and they seem to be happy that you came. Even the General Manager of the stores.
Outstanding service. Straight shooters, always relaxed and happy. I cant say enough good stuff about that dealer. Great people and good times.
The reason I have a Harley is the people at my local dealership. My son bought a used 04 xl1200C sportster from Destination Harley in Puyallop, Washington. He got a good deal on his bike but the kicker was the attitude of the folks that work there. They treated him like family. I was surprised to say the least that they treated me the same way. I was with my son when he bought his bike. I'd been a Honda rider for years and had a 98 Aero 1100 full dress bike. The Honda dealerships sure didn't treat me like that so I started looking for a Harley. I found what I was looking for in Oregon and brought it home. When I rode it to Destination Harley to show it off everyone from the manager on down made the trip out to look at it including the gal that works the clothing counter. They then congratulated me on my new bike even though I bought it somewhere else. I will be buying all my accessories from them and they will be doing my service work as well.
