My 2006 stock FLHX runs about 17-210 degrees. Do the 2007's run hotter? My sending unitis in the pan. I guess that could drop it a few degrees as the wind is passing under the bike as I ride.

I understood that oil temperature needed to hit at least 212F to boil off any condensation so running cooler may not be a benefit?...

I have an 07 SG (4k mile) and recently put a thermo oil dip stick in. On long trips( Tx summer) I notice my temperatures are anything between 210 and 250 max(stop/starts), average temperature seems to be around 230...It can take me up to 20 miles to get the oil temperature up to 200F.

I am planning to change to synthetic the next service which by all accounts should drop it a few degrees.

MPG averages around 40 to 44.
the oil doesn't need to get to 212 degrees to remove the moisture. the motor is much hotter than 212 degrees, as the oil moves around in the motorthe moisture evaporates and is expelled through the breather.

What are most of you using to measure your oil temp? I was looking to pull out that worthless air temp gauge and put the oil temp gauge in it's place #75265-04 for me, black bezel.

Went for a ride today (07 SG, 4000 miles)......air temperature (actual) was 90F.......running at between 2500 and 3500 rpm......Checked at 20 miles on my oil stick gauge..it was 200.

At 50 miles it was 230..all open road riding.

When I hit town, lots of stopping and starting it reached 241F.........then settled back down to 230...........but I dont know if this is proper.

I believe the engine is roughly 30degrees hotter than what the oil temp shows (from what I understand). So running 200 oil temp should mean 230 engine temp which is plenty to displace the condensation.

Thank you very much I really appreciate that. Yes I have the Screaming Eagle air cleaner too. Got to on these Harley's. The 2007'sare now almost unable to be ridden from the dealer. I never had a bike this lean....Man nobody now could ever be able to ride with stock exhaust, stock air cleaner the bike could not get out of its own way....Runs great now...,.Thanks again

I thought the same thing but was recommended onto another by my Harley dealer. I installed Wally's Oil Temp Gauge ... here's a link on this forum with more information: https://www.hdforums.com/m_2126/mpage_1/tm.htm#16309

I recently installed the Harley oil temp gauge in place of the air temp. (For some reason I must have hadthe only air temp that was actually accurate, usually within 1-2*, moving down the road). I put the sending unit in the pan, and to date have ridden in 94* ambient and the oil never got above ~200*. It does seem to take about 20 miles to get to ~180*. Since the gauge is not calibrated in even increments, I think they seem to be about 8.5* per mark, it is difficult to tell exactly what the temp is. I do not know why the lines are not calibrated in, say, 5* increments which would be much easier to read...but so far I have not seen anything close to 230*. I also have stage 1 and PCIII which eliminated the heat issue. PCIII was the best money spent so far.
