Default dzus vs speed nuts...

Been cleaning my ride up since I finished my stereo and found the speed nuts I used to replace the factory dzus mounts have deteriorated...to the point they crumbled while putting them back in. Glad I saved the stock hardware. I've had them speed nuts for about 2 years.

Wondering if anyone has come up with a way to box around the back of the factory setup to stop the screwdriver popping the pin trick or better speed nuts...

aside from popping the pin with a screwdriver, the other danger is the pin vibrating out ( i've had this happen to me, new bike, washboard road).

I use speed nuts from crown bolt- like at home depot...cost only a few bucks and they have been on over 5 years on my 09...the set on my '95 were on over 10 years...and probably still there.

I have the Brukus setup. Works great, lasts long time.

Brukus is popular here, but this set up works for me. Easy on and off. Several places carry them.

Just ordered the same kit, hopefully it's better than what I had. Just found it odd how brittle the speed nuts I had were...

I was a long time defender of the dzus fastener. If they are right and tight, they will not fail.

Harley found a way to f**k that up...

I now run 1 dzus, and 1 allen head per bag, you can build a set just like above with an allen head, minus the finger bolts for about 5 bucks at Lowes.

I like them. The **** are easy to grip and sit flush enough against the bag. Use your OEM larger flat washer between the rubber grommet on the bags and the small lock washer.

This is exactly the config I use on my Road Glide and my wife's Road King. This works great at securing the bags but also acts as a deterrent to opportunity theft particularly with the non-lockable leather covered bags on my wife's bike.

I did the home depot deal with button heads and speed nuts but not sure why the speed nuts deteriorated like they did...
