Didnt realize how sloppy it was until I changed it out today. Only have 10K on the odo. Glad I changed it out before it broke. FYI....Landmark Mfg, good pricing, free freight, prompt.
My mechanic has a 2005 Ultra and informed me to pick up a couple of the shift linkage knuckles to keep in my tourpack. His BROKE after 8000 miles. Luckily he had a few zip ties in his saddlebag to keep him going until he got a replacement part. A few others in our area reported having the same problem with breakage.
Don't buy them from the dealership. They want you to buy the whole linkage.
Those shift linkage knuckles can be bought at Mcmaster/Carr or motion industries or bearings inc. They are called Heim ends. They can be had in stainless and with seals on the end. Same stuff as on the front end of my lawn mower.

Had one of these break on my old RK at about 105k miles, and had I not had some wire-ties on-board I would've ridden home (about 30 miles) in low gear. Those ball-and-socket joints won't cut it from now on, so I just ordered some heim joints on Ebay to replace them on this new bike. I do think if you oil the stock joints it'll increase their lifespan, which I never did, but I'll never trust them again.
