Default Just wondering

I've been a member for a few months, but haven't really gotten around to posting too much. I bought a 2010 Rod King Classic about 6 months ago and I'm just wondering the best way to try and figure out what may or may not have been done to the bike.

I bought it from a indy shop so they didn't really have any info on the bike. It has Vance and Hines pipes, and I know it has the Screaming Eagle Stage 1 kit installed.

This is my first Harley, so I can't really tell, but it seems like it may have something different than stock as far as Cams. A few dudes that I hang out with all say it sounds like it has different cams than stock.

Unfortunately, in the last few weeks it has developed an oil weep from the left rear cylinder base. I will have to address that eventually. It only has 27,000 miles on it.

Anyway, anything anyone can inform me on as far as owning this bike will be much appreciated.

Aside from actually opening up the cam chest, or being familiar with the sound, I can't imagine another way to determine if you have different cams. Maybe you can take off the side covers and see if there is something like a Power Commander or other fuel management device plugged in there. Then I believe you may be able to hook it up to your computer and see what map it's running which may give you some insight.

There is no certain way of establishing mods, if you have no background info on the bike's history. If there is a non-stock tuner that will suggest a decent job was done on it, but won't identify the cam. That will require removing the cam cover at least. Fixing the oil weep will require removing the cylinder, which will reveal if it has stock bore and pistons, ports and valves.

Thanks for the replies. I will have to pull the covers off and check for Tuner. I also need to pick up the Harley Service manual so I can start learning as much as I can. I have always wrenched on my own bikes so I just need to get started on this one!

Glad to have a resource like this board though, sure helps.

rear cylinder base leaks are rare, there is a recessed O ring, not a gasket like on the evo days ( seep more common).

with any seep, clean it and observe whether something is dripping from above.

Just wondering if you asked the Indy shop if they did any of the engine work? If it has an exhaust other than stock it should be tuned, if you can't find a piggy back tuner take it to a dealer and have them see if it's been flashed. Where in NC?

Welcome from the Charlotte area.

Might ask your Indy if they can contact the owner and ask what mods were done.

Well it really is more of a weep! It's not like leaking onto the floor or anything like that and not even a noticeable drop in oil level. I cleaned it up and after about 150 miles, it had weeped and dampened the area around the base of the cylinder where it meets the case. It's really not that drastic, but it bugs me!

I am in Winston Salem. I picked it up KP motorsports in Greensboro. I'm fairly certain they probably didn't do anything to it. They did say they serviced it and changed fluids etc. It does have Vance and Hines pipes and a Stage 1 kit, but I need to go out this evening and pull the side covers and check for a tuner.

Thanks RKzen, that's an idea. There was some sales paperwork in the saddlebags when I bought it. If I remember correctly, it came from up north, way up north. Michigan or some where like that.
