Default Deceleration popping concerns

Hi All, I have searched this forum, as well as Google searches, to find out if the slight deceleration popping I am having on my 06 EFI RKS is bad but am now really confused. Ever since I installed the Vance and Hines slip-ons, my bike is having a slight deceleration pop randomly. I also get a couple pops here and there during random up shifts. I did NOT install a new intake or fuel management, just the mufflers. All I want to know is what affect does this have on the bike (is it bad)? I’m sure I will get mixed opinions, but would like to hear more about this topic. Thanks!

Go back and check for a leak. If you have trouble stopping a small leak get some high temp. silicone and seal it up. The two major causes for the popping is a lean condition or a leak on the exhaust. Seeing how you put slip ons on the bike, I would start there. Good luck.

Did you use new clamps on the mufflers?

Folks,
Yes, I used the new clamps that came with the mufflers, and no there are no leaks (at least not at the clamps). I'm more concerned if this is harming the motor in any way?

Thanks!

Ah'm thinkin' exhaust leak - check the donuts at the heads. IF it's an exhaust leak, yeah - it could very well cause ya problem$ by burnin' a valve.

Be sure the head clamps are torqued at around 11o inch pounds. You may need to get a download if you're lean - sounds like it might be to me.

Decell pop is caused by a lean fuel mixture at certain throttle positions. Slight decell pop is normal, the stock pipes do it but its so muffled you really dont notice it. Wont hurt a thing, if it bothers you then you need to get a tuning device to richen up the fuel mixture.

I have a rk custom with a carb. I added sampson drag fishtails andI get the pop on decel and shifting gears some of the time. I actually like the pop. I was talking with a tech at the local shop, and I was told that it isn't uncommon for the pipes I put on. Hopefully, I am not causing damage. But, without paying the money to a shop to find out, I may never know.

Thanks for all the feedback and all the valuable information [sm=smiley20.gif]. Since this is my first Harley, I was just being extra cautious. The popping is very minimal and I can deal with it. I may inquire about the download, but until then I'll just enjoy the ride . Thanks again!
