Get the Ultra!!!! I have a SG, and LOVE IT....But, I've added all the stuff to it that comes stock with the UC. (ie tour pack, lower fairings, passenger floorboards........) It's best to have and not need, than need and have to buy it......
I agree. I got a good deal on my SG but since have converted it to what I call an Ultimate Street Glide.

Of coarse there is a limit to the # of different models the Motor Company wants to build, but, why not a Street Glide Convertible, right from the factory? Build it with removable lowers, detachable tourpac and while they are at it why not throw in the cruise? Just my opinion, but, it seems like a no brainer to me.

i bought a street glide. however, whenmy wife started asking about all theoptions when i was getting it, the dealer rightfully suggested the ultra. I stuck with the SG because i liked the look and thought it would fit are riding style. I did get the small detachable backrest for her, but thats it. After 4 months, I'm glad i got the SG. Shes now cool with it without the ultra options, butmost of our riding is day rides or me solo. For us, the SG fit well, but the ultra seemed like the best option for most people, just not us.

I sat on the Street Glide, really liked it, sat on a FLHT liked the seat of it better. Sat on the street Glide, man it felt good. but the FLHT has running lights. I didn't care for the radio. I was short on cash. Because of the bigger seat and the running lights I got the FLHT. If I had the money to pay cash I would of gotten the Ultra, and when not going on long trips take the tour pac off.
The shocks on the FLHT and up series of EG seem to ride better than the shorter shocks too. Especailly riding 2 up.

As the saying goes, different strokes for dfferen folks. I just bought and 08 SG added detachable king tour pak, detachable back rest, detachable lowers. Now its like having 2 bikes with two very different looks. I think the Ultra is a great bike but some of us would rather spend a little more money and have the best of both worlds. Besides I think it is oversimplifying stating that you can just remove the tour pak and lowers and have the same look as the SG.

As far as the suspension is concerned, the lowered rear end om my SG rides very well. I was initially quite concerned about having less suspension travel than the Ultra but that concern is unwarranted. I live ona secondary paved road with lots of frost heaves and the SG handles it with no problems even 2 up and loaded to the gills.

All that being said if you plan to do 70% or more two up touring get the Ultra. If you plan to be one up and do some touring on weekends or occassional vacations get the SG, you wont regret it.

I went the same route. I just cost too much to do the add ons for the SG. Myowner of my dealersuggested the ultra. I'm glad!!
I think Harley Davidson does an outstanding job of creating different model bikes that perform very close to perfectly well for their intended purpose right out of the crate but for some reason many riders seem to purchase one model or another and spend a significant amount of money to make it something it's not.

If I really wanted to do a lot of serious long distancetouring I would have purchased an Ultra in a heartbeat,I don't,butI wish I had a dollar for every rider within a 100 miles of me thatalmost alwaysuses 'em for nothing but bar hopping.

I have an 07 SG with a luggage rack and no tour pak. If I had it to do over again I would get the Ultra and take stuff off (or maybe not).

Same boat here. I have talked myself into an Ultra after seeing all the stuff I'd have to add to the SG for two up riding.
