Had an 06 streetglide, it was totaled by a 17 yr old w/no license and a toyota. My new bike is a 07 Ultra, had the detatchable hardware and short relocated antenas. The thing is that I have yet to take off the tour pack. The wife and i both wear helmets since I bounced my head on the concrete, and the tour pack makes for real easy storage.

Hmm....I was going ot post somehting similar.

Bought my Deluxe in 06 over the touring bikes....Was thinking of moving becaus I'm now commuting everyday on the bike. I had a chance to ride a couple of touring bikes over vacation (EG Standard and Road Glide).

I liked the Road Glide over the Electra Glidebut I think it was mostly because of the height. I'm 5'8 with a long inseam but found even the Road Glide was a challenge to backup over my really low Deluxe. I can't imagine the I was thinking the SG is really nice looks wise vs. the Road Glide (Sorry just can't get past the bug eyes)....loved the radio and the cruise though and was thinking the CB would be aweful nice to talking to Hubby now and again. I'd buy a tour pack because I use the one I have now for commuting...

I too wish the electra Glide came without the pin striping ....I like the simple look of the SG.

I went with an Ultra and stripped it down, and put the quick detach kit on the TP. I think it gives me the best of both worlds. I still have cruise, intercom, lowers, tourpak, full height windshield etc.... So when I go on a one or two week trip, I can still set it up for comfort, or I can strip it back down to the minimum.

I have to agree with the if you ride two up buy the ultra but I have rode both and the ultra handles terible in my opinion I ride slow courses for fun and the ultra is not for me say what you want but very diffrent bikes in the set up and feel but im lucky only ever ride solo and love the way my bike handles. You should ride both if you have a chance.

Get the Street Glide.

If you need comfort for passenger Sundowner Seat - E bay has deals all the time $ 180.00

Tour Pak: $ 99.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HD-Ha...28379704QQrdZ1

Shock difference: 12"SG Vs 13" EG = gained 1/4" of shock shaft travel.

You can buy PIAA Bulb $ 35.00 and light up the earth http://stores.ebay.com/Kuruma-Motori...dZ2QQpZ2QQtZkm

and if you more light the Harley Fog Lamps $ 135.00.

All that Bling Bling [sm=bling.gif]on the EG is way to much and not needed

Think about the time saved cleaning as well [sm=pcwhack.gif]

I know the original discussion was a debate between an SG and an Ultra. But please humor a Softail lurker who is considering stepping up...

If one is concerned about giving up some of the SG style if you choose an Ultra or you are concerned about giving up some of the EG creature comforts if you choose an SG, then wouldn't an EG Standard be the obvious choice? Also, if the MOCO website is correct, the EG Standard is also the cheapest fairing bike available. I would think the cheapest option to satisfy Momma AND those of us who are style consious would be an Electra Glide Standard, no? It would seem to me to be a more moderate starting position if you'd like Ultra comfort with SG style. Thoughts? Tell me about the EG Standard....

Default RE: Street Glide vs. Ultra

I have been reading the forum for a while but this is my first post. This seems like a good time to jump in. I have an 07 street glide that I bought abouta year ago and have really enjoyed. Recently I was having the " I should have just bought an ultra" blues. Especially after spending a lot of time in Sturgis with a friend that has an UC and with all the money I have put into the extras it would have made more sense (on paper). I have 4 different windshields, lots of chrome personalization, sundowner seat, and have recently added new grips, cruise, and a king tour pack (quick detachable). Now I have well over 25k in my SG. I will try to get pics up here soon. Yesterday I got the new tourpack mounted and had the tall windshield on it. I stepped back from the bike and thought to myself that is a really "nice" looking bike. I knew my wife would love the tourpack backrest for the long trips as well. This addition really makes the bike a great touring bike for those long weekend trips I love to do. After staring at the bike for hours ( I seem to have a problem because I can't stop starring at my Harley I love it so much) I still kept thinking it is a very useful bike now with the pack etc in full touring mode but I still loved the looks of it with the 6" smoked windshield and no big tour pack hanging off the back. When my wife got home I showed her the new tourpack with her comfy seat on it. She said thatis nice and it is comfortable but no offense but I like the looks of it the other way. Keep in mind she is not a die hard biker by any means and how her butt feels is usually number one one her priority list. She said it looks very nice but it lost a lot of it's sexyness. The next day I kept looking at it and I couldn't wait to switch it out of touring mode and see how it looks without the stuff on it.I amvery happy that I have the tourpack and touring rig but I am even happier that I can take all that crap off when I am not using it and put it back in "sexy" mode while doing my everyday cruising. I am so happy that I have a SG and I am glad that I proved it to myself finally. The beauty of this hobby is that everyone likes different things and each bike can be customized to you and your likes. It's all personal preference and no one can say for another what is right and wrong. Because there is no such thing! Great forum btw!
