Channel Loc oil filter plyers, definitely.
They work on everything from your bike to your car/pickup.
One tool only is needed.

You can also just go caveman on it with a big screwdriver and a hammer

That Channel Loc tool doesn't much care what you specify - it will just work and you'll be all smiles.

I use the harley filter wrench, no problems.

I did run into a similar issue with my Honda Civic. I was traveling quite a bit for work and had to change oil every 2-3 months. I used the same "socket" style filter wrench along with the same brand filters for years without an issue. Then out of the blue the wrench started slipping on the filters. It turned out the filter manufacturer started using thinner metal which changed the outside dimensions of the filter making the wrench quite a bit looser than it should be. I went back to using Honda filters which my wrench still fit perfectly.

With a permanent filter and a socket, the only thing that changes is the oil. Not to **** on peoples filter choices but "permanents" are quickly becoming popular for good reason. If you haven't checked em out you might find the option interesting.

My favorite solution for removing my oil filter for years. Tool # KN171C. Never slips, easy off and on comes in chrome or black takes up no room in my tool box.

I already have the new Harley filters on. For you KN guys, dealer has free filter with 4 qts. of oil. Can't beat ANYTHING free from dealer.
Think I'll check their wrench with a filter at dealer and see if there is play in it. Maybe I wore mine out.
