With a permanent filter and a socket, the only thing that changes is the oil. Not to **** on peoples filter choices but "permanents" are quickly becoming popular for good reason. If you haven't checked em out you might find the option interesting.
I will have to look into this one day. I now have a company truck and only need to service the car once a year.
I have the Rivco. You only need a couple of inches of movement to get the filter loose. You can always remove the wrench and reapply it.
The other end of the wrench has a hex head to remove the drain bolt. Don't use it. The wrench is so lightweight (due to the necessary clearance issues) that you can easily bend the filter end of the wrench loosening a properly torqued oil drain bolt.

A screwdriver works best for me. Jam it in at the bottom of the filter to let it drain out for a few minutes first. Then, if the filter is difficult to remove, stick the screwdriver back in and use it as leverage to twist off the filter. This makes for a much cleaner removal of the filter too.
I have always used the Harley Cup Wrench but I don't know if filter covers are getting smaller or what but it slips on tight filters. Had to wrap duct tape around filter and struggled to get loose on two bikes this weekend. I oil filter gaskets and only tighten a little after they seat but they been real stubborn lately.
Do I just need a new cup wrench? I have seen Rivco Wrenches mentioned but they look like they would be hard to get good leverage.
What's best?
I have a stuck filter on my New M8 engine. Kind of sucks that the strap wrech doesn't work any longer. End Cap wrenches are useless. I'm looking into crazy glueing the wrench to the cap, using tape, or explosives. This is a poor design - the first negative I've discovered on the new bike.

If you have an end cap filter remover that slips:
Drill two holes in your end cap filter remover at 3 oclock and 9 oclock or 12 and 6.
Now place filter cap on filter and punch some small holes into filter at those two points you made.
Insert sheet metal screw in holes thru the cap and into the filter.
Now turn your cap.
FWIW, I've had a filter on a TC stick so hard the oil filter cap wrench from HD loosens it every time. I have seen filters seize up at the gasket when they are put on with no oil on the gasket.
after having used several different types of wrenches that all left something to be desired, i am now using the rivco. works great, doesn't slip. easy enough to reposition if needed. definitely a worthwhile purchase.
