Road King Custom!! No faring but add a detachable windshield & you've got all the comfort you need + the looks . The ride is great.
I can't totally agree with that statement. I have an 04 RK Custom (I bought it new)& the ride is super now, but it was downright awful with the stock lowered air shocks(it rode like a lumber wagen). The Street Glide comes stock with those awful shocks also.

I have tried a variety of different shocks & all of them improved the ride dramatically.

Dollar for Dollar there is no better deal that Harley offers than the Electra-Glide Classic....it absolutely, positively is the best "bang-for-the buck" that Harley offers.

That is absolutely true, I agree 100%

I am not going to tell you which bike you would like or should get. But I can give you some info on the batwing verses the frame mounted RG. I ride a Heritage Classic. Rented a RG in Vegas and rode it for 2 days. I found it to be front end heavy at the slow end of the envelope. At speed it was great. I later rode an Ultra. Took it to the parking lot and rode nice and slow to compare. I found it to handle great at slow speeds. Took an 07 on the interstate the other day to check the wind at high speed. No problems. Handled great. So bottom line. The sight line is different that what you are riding now but they handle great. Hope that helps some

I gotta tell ya', I love my Electra Glide Standard.
I have an E-Glide Classic and could'nt be happier, but the Standard is the best bang for the buck touring bike. The Batwing fairing is not something youreally have to look over. It does not impede your view of the road at all. As for comfort, second to none. If you find that you are lacking for some equipment or bling, you are starting with a blank canvass with a Standard. Over time, make it your own.

I own a '05 rk custom. '07 is the last year they will make it. I love my bike, and I love the versatility of it. You can really dress it up with detachable windshield (or fairing), tour pack and such, or dress it down without those things. Like having multiple bikes with multiple looks. I have added a few touches to my bike, but I found that stock, I was very pleased with it. Whatever you decide, I sure you will be happy. Just make a list of what you are looking for, and if you still want a little advice, post the list. We all ride touring bikes in this section, and have very different lists of what we wanted in a touring bike. If all you are looking for is more comfort, any touring bike is great. I was fortunate enough to rent many, many different Harley's before I made my decision, but that isn't a viable option to you. Might you have a good buddy with a touring bike, I would ask them. Most of us frown on letting anyone on our bike, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Let them take your out for a spin as well. Then they can be reminded how nice these touring bikes are. Also, if money is any concern, they police bikes are less expensive, and have the most comfortable solo riding seat available. Just my $0.02
