+1 on what Ranger said. There is a difference between a tender (float) and a trickle charger.

I use a tender on my bike all the time. The original battery lasted 7 years and was only replaced as part of my preventative maintenance efforts. As far as I know it's still being used in my neighbors riding mower.

This is all you need. Available for under $30 at many places. Good for auto batteries too.

I agree with most, I have always used a battery tender on my motorcycles and ATV's and have never had any issues. Just replaced the original battery on my 2005 Honda Rubicon ATV after 10 years of being on a battery tender whenever it was parked and it was still working!

Is there a location on Harley Batteries that lets you know when the battery was purchased? I purchased my 08 Fat Boy used about 2 1/2 years ago and would like to know how old the battery is.

Yup, I did my homework when I purchased my Batteryminder. It was the first one with desulfate function on the market. The new Batteryminder has temperature correction, meaning it will not overcharge or undercharge when ambient temperature changes.
