Default Phoenix Area Rides

Hi all,

Towed my bike down from Montana and I'm in Phoenix for a few days staying with friends. I've heard about the Coronado Trail on hwy 191 and i'm wondering if that is ridable currently (3/11/16) I know it goes to 7,000 ft and just want to check with local riders. I've read I should ride it south to north first time. Towing bike went great other than forgetting my leathers in MT. You can't fix stupid......goldie

191 is a great ride but it will be cold this time of year. I tend to stay south till it warms up a bit but I'm very cold blooded.

The Coronado Trail goes to about 9000' feet. I would avoid this time of year. You could do the Mesa - Globe - Winkelman - Kearny - Superior loop this time of year. If you want a big ride, keep going through Globe to Safford, then come back to the valley through Tucson.

cyclerides.com is a great riding resource...click on the dayrides section.

Barry does a great job curating rides with maps and pics

since you forgot your leathers you can stay at lower elevations and be toasty

That area is awesome for rides my kids live there and every time I visit them every early morning I take off to go for few hrs of ride. Just look at the Google map and put your finger on an area and plan a ride you won't be disappointed just stay away from higher elevations, also visit Scottsdale HD the big *** HD shop in the whole world. AZ has the best roads in the country Jerome, Cave Creek, Wickenburg and Tortilla Flats are nice day rides and Tombstone is good place for overnight ride.

I took I-17 North to Flagstaff and then 179 to Sedona. Absolutely great ride. The scenery is breathtaking and Sedona is a must to see town. Going further north you run into 89 north and encounter a section with breathtaking switchback curves. I was there in February and it was not too cold.
