I too had this happen on my '98 Road King when I added one of those tri bar headlamps with the replaceable bulbs. I also blew bulbs quite often. I replaced the connector and put in a halogen sealed beam and no more problems. I had lots of bulb outages on my current '06 Road King as well, maybe 2 a year. Replaced it with a conventional halogen sealed beam and haven't blown it in over 5 years now.

I experienced the same problem a few years back. But, a higher wattage bulb is what did mine in. It lasted a couple of years until it started shorting out and eventually melted the plastic. Whenever I hit my brights, it would blow the fuse. I think I purchased a new receptacle at Napa for about $3.00. It is just a regular auto type receptacle.
