I'm not sure how much difference they make with the heat issue,my 14 doesn't seem to be real hot.But I do like they way they fill the gap.I wrapped mine in carbon fibre vinyl wrap.
As others have said they do work great and I put the chrome accents on mine to give it a streamline look that follows the cylinder lines and blends the covers in nicely.
I will join the chorus of those who think the Stock Harley ones helped quite a bit. Most say they help when idling, I will add they also direct heat away from your inner thigh when moving.
Personally, I hate the look of the factory ones Harley puts on the Ultra's from the factory. I took the factory ones off my limited and they wont be going back on. If I find I need a set, it'll be the clear ones from kuryakyn. I had the kuryakyn clear ones on a RK I had and I can live with the look of them. Since my current bike is a twin cooled, hoping I can get by without em. But if not these will go back on.
I replaced the plastic ones that were on my EGC with the plain black leather Capt. Itch Crotch Cooler and the crotch cooler works WAY BETTER than the plastic ones! I rode with the plastic ones through one hot summer, and knew that I needed to find something else. We can't lane split here in Northern Virginia, so when sitting in stop and go traffic during my commute, the crotch cooler made it very comfortable.
I also installed the Wards Fans for the bike at about the same time. Now both me and my bike can stay cool in the warmest temperatures.
