Ok I changed fork oil on my 2008 ULTRA.Now--You guessed it, I'm having trouble installing the ignition switch.I watched the you tube videos but still can,t get it. When I removed it ,it was in the off position so I could swing the fork to access the fork caps. When I went to reinstall it,I turned the bars left to lock position and inserted the switch but could'nt get the key out.So it took it back out.Now the forks are locked, the switch goes in, but won't depress to turn the key to lock position. I used a screw driver to try different positions but no luck. Will I need a switch alignment tool to fix my **** up?
I'm not going to be able to help much, but just keep screwing with it. move it with the screwdriver and keep trying it. All of a sudden the planets will align and the thing will work.
Anyway, that's what always happened for me.
Oh ya, if that doesn't work, I think Georges Garage has an alignment tool pretty cheap.
Trunomad - keep tinkering with it, you'll get it. Use a flashlight and look down in the hole. You'll see the notches that have to line up. You don't need to buy a special tool. You can use a long screw driver or make a tool. I made the one below from 1/8" thick by 1/2" wide bar stock (you could use 3/8" wide bar also).
Using this tool, I can drop it in to the first mark at 2 1/4" to turn the upper tumbler. Or drop it in to the next mark at 3" to turn the lower tumbler.
If I remember right, the 2 notches in the lower tumbler are different sizes. So make sure you're lining up the correct notch.

Go to YouTube and type in the following. "Ignition switch removal from a 2009 Street Glide". This video should answer all of your questions and show you exactly what to do. Good luck!
Got it put back together. Used a flat tip screwdriver with a narrower blade. One click counter clockwise and it slipped right in Thanks everyone for your support. This forum is great. Next up changing brake fluid.

Get yourself a MityVac for the brake fluid change.
