HD makes a tool (HD-45962) to align the ignition/fork lock switch for 06 Elec Glide Ultra. When I tighten or adjust my handlebars I have to remove the switch. The tool is not sold at my local HD dealer and they seem hesitant to order one for me. They say it will take forever and is very expensive. They also do not want to "loan" theirs out. Any suggestions????
Had mine off a few time without a tool. I used a long handle screwdriver and a flashlight once when I got the tumblers off center. Never needed the tool.
The manual says remove the switch in fork lock position but I can't get the "cap" off while the fork is turned so far to the left. I inserted the shaft back and turned just enough to unlock the fork and in doing so got them miss aligned. I suppose I should have done something different but I am not sure what.
Like AtkRWCsays. Just get yourself a long, large-bladed screwdriver. You can insert it down into the tube and engage the notches in there with the screwdriver. You can easily turn them any way you want.
I had exactly the same problem after I goofed up my own switch removal but the screwdriver trick saved me. Give it a try
The dealer told me the screw driver worked up until 06. He told me it would no longer work on the newer bikes. I noticed you ride an 06 so I am assuming you used the screw driver on it ????

Yesser. It's an 06 Screaming Eagle and worked great. I think your dealer is full of it. Course I'm a little biased since EVERY time I take the bike to the dealer more comes back broke than fixed. Needless to say, I don't take it there much anymore.
someone here has to have a Service manual for the 06 - I have an 04 and have had the switch off several times... trick is in the pushing the little button underneath and pushing the key down and twisting the correct position - someone with an 06 SM please quote the passage for us...
BTW Crazie - NICE bike... love that color combo... want to trade for a 04 (plus I will thow in ex wife and kid - I'll keep the payments on the W&K)
