I have a 2014 Street Glide. I recently put on Full Boar slip-ons. I am due to put a new air filter on. My question is.... If I put on a K & N replacement filter would that qualify me as "STAGE 1". FWIW I currently have the stock tune, and am trying to decide if I should spend another $300 on a tuner.
You can spend $200 on the Fuel Moto Micro Tuner, which uses Power Commander maps, supplied for lifetime by Fuel Moto. The benefit of this option is that if you do further mods, they would almost certainly have a map to match your combo.
Or, for an even more affordable option if you plan no further mods, you can go with Night Rider VIEDs, about $130
Whatever you do, DO NOT waste your money on the dealer download. Its a complete ripoff.
Don't waste your money on an air cleaner, use that for a proper tuner/tune. The '14 up air cleaners flow plenty. A proper tune is the best thing ya can do to your bike.
I was told by a couple of dealers in my area that I should change the air filter but there wasn't a need to open up the back of the breather housing, so I got the K&N filter on line. Some will tell you, you can use the stock filter but consider that the K&N is washable and one time expense where the stock filter is not. I use the Vance & Hines Fuel Pak 3 for a tuner. Been running the downloaded map from them for about 600 miles now and it seems to be solid.
FWIW. I recently went to a new intake and when we removed the stock filter that thing was dirty as hell.Bike has 2k miles don't know if that's the reason or not.
Or, for an even more affordable option if you plan no further mods, you can go with Night Rider VIEDs, about $130
this right here is what I went with on my 2015 RK, which has the mods you are doing. I found a set on ebay for less and they have been working perfectly.
