Thanks for all the post and take it easy on John he is only trying to help. As for my situation, the player uses a sd card and I have tried various with the same results. Someone said that it was the way I saved my music being "it was saved at a different volume than I am trying to play it at". If that was the case then why is it never the same song or better yet do it from the start? It always happens after about 30 minutes of riding and having the unit play. I know for a fact that my oem speakers have a sticker that says 8 ohms, these hogtunes have 5.75. I have tried everything short of changing speakers or sending the mp3 back. I even changed the format from mp3 to wma per the manufacturer saying i-tunes would not work, to no change. I can turn the unit off and let it cool and it will work, meaning turn the radio off not the player. I think its the radio can't handle the change of the speakers impeadence but I am no expert and that is why I came here asking for advice/help. FDM

FULLDRAWMIKE ,,,,,,

change the speakers to a set of J&M's for your model year of Harley ,,,,, go to our website and order them (((one set for the Electraglide/Streetglide fairing and a different set for the RoadGlide fairing )) ,,,, just get the ones you need for your type and model year ,,,,,,

all the choices are on the harley Classics pageon the J&M website ,,,,,,

if the problem is not fixed or you dislike the J&M speakers in any way ,,,,, just return them and J&M will refund your $$$ ,,,,,

just don't buy them from a dealer and then return them direct, cus that causes hassles ,,,,,

If I am right your troubles will be gone ,,,, BUTT also note that a good CD playing in the Harley audio system will always be heard louder than Harley's little MP/3 player plugged into the aux ,,,,,,, and don't ask why, cus that is a story for another day ,,,,,/

Do you have a headphone jackon the MP3 player? If so, thenwhen it starts sounding like its skipping plug the headphones into the MP3 player itself (not connected to or through the amp). If it skips directly from the MP3 player its either the music, the SD card is corrupt where themusic was recordor its the player. If no skip then its the amp, wiringor speakers. It's a simple process of elimination - check the wiring, check the speaker impedance, check the MP3 player by itself, when it sounds like its skipping try another input device to see what happens.

I posted the below as a new thread but if riders are subscribed to this thread I thought they may miss the new one so I decided to also post my findings here as well so all could see what was wrong with my radio/MP3 setup. FDM

I posted a question (another thread post)concerning a skipping problem with my HD Mp3 player and some mentioned various things that could cause my problem. My concern was that is was doing the skipping or breaking up only after about 30 or so minutes of use while riding. When I did the install (myself) I made two changes at the same time since I was going to have my outer fairing off of my 2003 Road Glide. I installed the HD MP3/WMA player as well as a set of Hogtunes. I found out about them (Hogtunes) via reading here as well as being a member of another v-twin forum. Hogtunes had rave reviews so I spent the money. By doing both changes at the same time it made for a very trying time on what was wrong. I changed formats on my SD cards from MP3 to WMA plus various SD cards 2 gig and 1 gig cards are not cheap. Turns out JMJohn and a couple of others are correct, it was the Hogtune speakers (5.25 ohms). The wife and I just got back from 180 miles of riding where I used the player the entire time and never once did it skip or breakup. That is a very first time its worked great plus I must say and I am speaking from my own experiences, the J&M's have far better sound calarity plus I had to turn it way down over the HG's by far. I have the small black wind deflector for a windshield so at 60-65mph I need more volume than those that have a windshield of normal height. Also with the J&M's you get the tweeter with the awesome looking grill/covers. Let me say, if they had not performed better I would have posted so, everyone that needs or wants better speakers should check them out. My order was processed super quick and I can now listen to my music and enjoy it for more than 30 minutes but for however long I want to. If any of you have 8 ohm speakers stock, you better stay with 8 ohm units, call and get the J&M's you will not be dissappointed . FDM

After I swapped my speakers to J&M from the Hogtunes I decided to check the impedance/ohms of the Hogtunes. It is stated on the Hogtunes documentation as well as the Hogtunes box that they are 5.75 ohms and can be used anywhere between 4-8 ohms. I have a Fluke 87 voltmeter which is a very expensive and accurate meter that I use for my work. I use it to troubleshoot electronic controlled state of the art machines at my work so I know its a very good meter. The ohm reading on the Hogtunes came in at 3.8-3.9 ohms. It would be easy to see how a radio engineered and designed for 8 ohm speakers would and did have a problem with these speakers. Just thought anyone with a similar issue or problem maybe that can give your radio a slow death know. FDM

FDM,

You need an impedance meter to check the speakers. Even though your fluke is a great meter it can't measure the impedance that way. I forget why but I am sure someone here will be able to explain it to us.

I use a TOA impedance meter to measure a raw speaker and line loss.

FDM,

I have been thinking about my above post. I may have that backwards. You can't measure impedance with the Fluke. Hell I 'm confused now which is which.
Been out of the business too long I guess. Maybe someone else can straighten me out?
