Gel is overrated for a motorcycle seat. a few really like it, most find it uncomfortable. Gel is not as forgiving as it says in the sales brochure and works best when covered in foam...covered in foam, just use excellent foam and you are way ahead.

The airhawk works by eliminating any pressure points, your *** is supported evenly and it allows air to circulate. Gel, in concept does the same thing, but it does not reduce pressure evenly, does not circulate air so monkey butt is common. The gel is an insert and that is what limits its functionally. Gel moves some material laterally away from the most pressure to the area right next to it. It only has so much capability to adjust to pressure. If it works for you great, otherwise it sucks. Most seats use shape or foam to make it comfortable. A well shaped seat is one that matches your ***, therefor even pressure = comfort. Quality foam compresses and rebounds as needed. Good foam is not felt when you sit on it and holds its shape. Some (like me like a cushy seat while other asses like a firmer foam. You just have to determine what you like best. Gel is not bad, just that is often takes a very specialized *** to enjoy it.

Anyway I am not getting paid for this, so take this with a grain of salt. Just my experience and I pass it on for that alone.

I have a Hammock seat from Harley. I don't need gel or more foam with it. If I were going to get a new seat, I'd be looking a Danny Gray seat with the AirHawk built into it. Costs about the same as a Harley seat and not much more than what it would cost for you to have your seat doctored by Mean City Cycles. Saw them at Revzilla for a pretty decent price.

Of all the different "upgrades" that have done to the 14ultra adding gel pads was a complete waste of money!! IMO of course!

I went with both and MCC did work. I never had any problems. I would call them and ask for their recommendation like grbrown has suggested. This is my second seat worked on by MCC.
