one more advantage on the new frame- the entire rear section is a bolt on and can be easily and inexpensively changed in the event of an accident- previously a bike might be "totalled" for minor rear frame damage like a bent tab for the crash bar.
If you can get a 10 do that. They changed the straight cut 5th gear to helical. The noise the old 5th made was a common complaint.
Those guys must have been stock exhaust guys that were a little overly sensitive. I never thought it was that bad. I currently have a 10 and a 16 and I wouldn't stay away from a 09. The 07's and 08's I would because of the change-over year and parts.

It sounded like a super charger, the whine. If you stayed in 5th a bunch it could become annoying.
Didn't bother some, but it did bother most. Enough for HD to change it. Thousands of threads about it back then. lol
I had an 07 and 09 and I'm glad I moved on... Just one of those things I guess.
I'd suggest going with a 103 motor. The very first thing you are going to do, no matter what you buy, is make it run better.
I got a decent deal on my used '12 Ultra, for the bike I paid 12K, then the dealer "fluff"..
Budget for opening up the exhaust, air cleaner and a TTS tuner.

if i could find a '12 for $12k in my neck of the woods this question would have never been asked... 07's are going for $12k round here. it will be even more difficult to find the color i want. I really like the charcoal pearl, which i think was a 13 color.
Had '05 RKC with 88" motor, '07 EGC with 96" motor and now have a '12 EGC with the 103" motor and to me the 103" is easily an improvement over the other two. i prefer the 6-speed on the later models. Riding position and comfort of ride are better on the '12 over the '07.
