I was in the same situation as you last year. I decided on a 2009 UC. I liked the wider rear tire, and the new frame. Plus, 2009 didn't have a cat converter on it.

I've had it a year now, and don't regret the decision one bit.

Didn't bother some, but it did bother most. Enough for HD to change it. Thousands of threads about it back then. lol

I had an 07 and 09 and I'm glad I moved on... Just one of those things I guess.
Yep, The 5th gear noise was rather obnoxious at times ... different trans fluid helped subdue it and over a period of time I don't notice it anymore. The difference between the 2008 and the 2009 baggers is significant and the improvements are well worth the added cost.

The cam chain tensioners are a thing , but spend a few bucks, and then you have a pretty much bullet proof bike. The older bikes didn't have compensator problems, or trans bearing problems.
Lots of older bikes out there with low miles on them, and lots of them with over 100k miles on them too.
For the money difference you can buy an older bike fix the cam chain tensioner problems, add some good rear shocks, and put in a baker 6 speed.

Hopping on board this thread.

Considering moving to an Electraglide from my '08 Deluxe. Been searching somewhat casually for one in my budget, and going to look at a '13 on Sunday. Gonna depend on how much wiggle room is in the price whether it's financially doable or not. But wondering if I'd be better off holding off a year or two and getting a '14 or later. I've demo'ed a few 14 and 15 touring models, and rented a 15 Ultra Limited for a day, and have been quite impressed. Zero time on pre '14 touring models.

I don't really care about the infotainment stuff, but I'm more interested in how much difference the bigger fork makes in ride quality and handling, and if the extra passenger space makes much difference for the passenger - Momma was quite a fan of the back seat on the rental. I'm somewhat interested in staying away from the twin-cooled models though, not because I don't like liquid cooling, but because I'd like the option to remove the lowers. This wouldn't be a dealbreaker either way, but it's one consideration for me.

I have a different take. I own an 08 and very good friend has a 2014. Say all you want about the changes but I hate the seating on the new frame, I think it sucks.

I'm agree with Bill03E. I have an 05 Ultra and it has over 141,000 mi so far. I went gear drive about 120,000 ago and it's been pretty much bullet proof. If I were in the market for a bike I wouldn't want anything newer than an 06.
