Doc, I don't know how far upstate you're located but I'm in Westchester and have both the 18" and 16" Clear LRS recurves that were each on my 16 RK for maybe 200 miles each. If you want either one I'd ask $50 if you want to pick it up.
I finally just cut down the original HD shield a little at a time until I got it to the point I was happy with and am sticking with that. PM if interested.
Your input and offers (thanks jlasoftail & Firenailer) are greatly appreciated. A hard call, but I just sprang for the Klock Werks Billboard Flare 16.5". I was swayed by the positive responses on this one, thanks. I like the idea of the wider screen, and am hoping the 16.5" will give me a good road view and still keep the bugs and rain out of my eyes. I'll post my thoughts after installed and a few hundred miles. I ordered from J&P (free shipping, no tax).
I bought two shields from LRS last year - one for the Limited and the other for my '02 RKC. I bought them during one of their sales and paid something like $110 for both. I was impressed with the price I paid and doubly impressed with the shields.
The 16.5" Klock Werks shield showed up yesterday and I installed it this morning. A tad tricky, a second pair of hands would have been helpful, but really just a few minutes.
Just a short ride so far, my 40 mile commute, not over 65 mph, but I'm loving it so far. It comes in at about nose level, so I'm getting a fantastic view of the road. Roughly a 50 ft view over the shield. I don't understand why the HD stock is a 20" shield.
There is a huge dead air space around me, sitting up as straight as possible the air still shoots over my helmet, and the wide flare sends air past my hands. It was in the 50's so that was appreciated. I expect to be out in the rain Saturday, as I agreed to escort a bicycle race. Don't do this unless you are good on slow uphills, it is a clutch burner!
I'll post more impressions, hoping to do 8 to 10 k over the summer.
