Hi, i recentely had a big bore and cams done to my bike, its an 02 with 95bb and redshift 527cams , also has a dynatek TC88 module and the SE camplate and tensioner upgrade, motor is still not broken in yet but when i cruise all seems fine, and like many of us i like to blip the throttle between shifts at least i do, well when i blip the throttle between shifts i get a light pinging, doesn't ping when i accelerate but i don't put much of a load on the motor because of the break in, have only about 40 miles since upgrades, seems weird i would get a light ping when i blip the throttle with no load applied, What could cause this?
Bike is at the shop now and my indy will be looking at it next week
it may not be a ping in that the motor has no load on it- you could be hearing something else...could be the primary chain slapping....or a loose washer on the horn mount ( really, I've seen that kinda thing mistaken for pinging)
when you rev the motor with no load, the timing should be retarding as the vacuum drops and/or there should be extra fuel added ( efi or carb?)
if that is happening it shouldn;t ping
take it easy on the revs, take a few degrees of timing out of it as well
until you've run the motor in
