Default Lowering 2014 SGS Advice

I want to drop the rear so 1st I researched and wanted to buy the 10.5' burley slammers. This wont make sense because I have the adjustable pressure shock on my street glide special.

Next I looked at what i had on my Road King Classic which was those 25-$50 lowering kits and saw mixed reviews. Some guys on amazon wrote they had no problem installing and others said it will not work as it rubs against the shock and eventually the belt.

I just got this bike, I already bought a lower seat and id really just like to figure out the best way to lower it 1-2 inches.

I did see one guy used a tool and cut out that spot that thats rubs but you guys will know, what is working?

Thanks!

Jri makes an 11" single adjustable shock. At least they did a month ago. You can set sag and still adjust the ride quality with a sweep valve. There is a customer review on the website that has 11" and he loves them. I have the 12" and they are awesome. I am 170 and wife is 105 so not a lot of weight. They ain't cheap. I am not sure how clearance issues will be at 11", at 12" really not a problem.

Your 12" shock has 2" of travel. An 11" shock will have 1". Just how comfortable do you think that's going to be when 1000+ pounds of bike and you hit a bump?

I must be getting old. I'd much rather be comfortable than cool.

Need to lower the front end to lower the seat height since you already have uncomfortable lower shocks in the back and anything shorter will be almost a hard tail. You can try the lowering blocks just make sure there is enough clearance for the saddle bags .

Alot of people are doing air ride to make the hieght adjustable. I know my friend did the lowering brackets and ended up rubbing through some wiring on his bike in the rear fender

old thread, i know, but shock travel is more than ride cushion, it is intended to force your wheels down to the pavement in rough road conditions. eliminating this travel on rough road conditions will cause your rear tire "skip" over bumps. if you hit a series of these, you will find yourself in deep sheit
