Default Lowered my 06 Ultra Classic

Wow; what a difference it makes when you lower 1 ½ inches in the rear on an Ultra.

I used the Lower kit sold by eGlide Goodies, (New Lowering Kits for Electra Glides, Road Glides and Road Kings

Designed to lower the rear of your Electra Glide, Road Glide or Road King without affecting the shock angle. READ MORE HERE.)

Thes are not some piece of crap you find on Ebay, they are of great quality and CNC Machined form 7075-T6 Aluminum and
Black Anodized. The fitment was right-on.

I chose to ignore the warning that says your better off for two up ridding to use the 1 inch kits, I measured the travel I have and believe there is plenty even after lowering. I do ride two up a lot and if guys can use the 11.5 inch progresive shocks then why notlower it 1.5 inches.

For those of you who are on the fence about to lower or not to lower I would say lower it.

I am 6 ft and 208lbs and after the 45 minute job to install this kit and adjust the drive belt I went for a 100 mile ride; I hit a few good bumps and went in and out a few drive ways and had no ill effects.

I am running the stock air shocks with 12lbs of air in them; I put 18lbs in and put a 140lb passenger on and road a bit around town and still no ill effects.

Those of you that feel you are sitting on your ride and feeling like your titling forward as apposed to sitting down in the saddle and leaning back I strongly suggest you give this a try.

Bruce

Cool! I just lowered my Road King. I went with Progressive 412's 1 1/2" in back and lowered the front springs an inch. Huge difference for sure! I feel like I am so much more in control, especially when two-up, no more wobbley feeling at stops. I notice bumps a little more, but the pros for me outweight the cons. I am 6'1" and stock just felt too high for me.

I went with the 2 1/2" R.U.B. lowering kit found on EBAY - AWESOME!!!!! One hour easy install. BTW - 6 feet / 250#.

Like having a new bike - feet really planted on the ground now. Lowered the center of gravity significantly. FEELS GREAT.

dchoran - you said easy 1 hour install but what is your level of expertise? Mine is more than likely the lowest level.

I had that same lowering kit on my 02 RK Classic. With the soft bags you have to use a kit that doesn't change the shock angle. I thought it was great solo, but with the wife I had to max the air out and it would still bottom out on a big bump or dip. When I traded that bike I kept the lowering kit and put it on the next bike, a 03 RG. It would do about the same. If I was to recomend a lowering kit I would say to stick with 1". I weigh around 180# and the old lady weighs around 130#. (She won't tell me, I just guessed her weight) I'm not going to try to lower my SG any more.

Viper:

I can do oil changes, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor...... basic stuff. Never seen a piston in 50 years.

The job will be a thousand times easier with a motorcycle jack - pic below.

Jacked it up - and removed shock bolts (top/bottom) one at a time on each side - put on the kit and rebolted.

No need to adjust anything except air pressure.

BUT these other guys are right - even at max pressure, you will bottom out (scape fender) on big dips and bumps.

I go 250 and the OL goes 200 - and I can ride fine 95% of the time - the fender scrapping is just noise period.

The lowering kit is a breeze to install - just follow directions and get some pics from the guy to help out GGhijr1@aol.com

Good jobe Bruce-I knew you would like the feeling of a lowered Ultra. Glad there are no problems with your wife on the back. I know I like mine lowered much better than stock.
