My dealer told me 1 1/2 hours to put chrome switches on at $100 per hour plus cost of switches. 1 1/2 because they break easy. LOL Why is that my problem if they break them putting them on? $190.00 for chrome switches? I did my last bike for $20 bucks.

Holy $hit...was this their selected mechanic?

What amazes me is that these "professionals" say these completely outrageous things to their CUSTOMERS with a straight face...nlol. They must have to practice in the mrror, lol, so they don't break out laughing...
I would stay away from that shop...
I had an hd shop in NH, that wanted me to pay them to remove and reinstall my back wheel to change my rear tail lights under warranty...I told them the fender comes off in 5 minutes with 4 bolts, taking the wheel off for $200 bucks is NUTS! They said the shop manual required it...I took the warrantied lights and my buddy and I did them in an hour by taking the fender off...that included beer drinking time also...
Find a good independant shop you can trust and buy them beer!!!
Ride safe and see you in Laconia!
You would have to be stupid or a crook to take off the back wheel...period.

Seems like a recurring theme where some dealers try to sucker shot customers with labor charges that are double or more what they should be. Harley should police this to preserve the brand reputation. WTF? We want you to be our customer so can blind side you every chance we get?

I had a dealer quote a three hour job and then when I got there they tried to bump it to five. When I called them out on it, they tried to bargain for four and finally backed down to the original three hours and acted like they were doing me a big favor. All done there.

Factory 47 bars are easier than yaffes
I did 12 yafees on 1 bike it less than 8 hrs. Did factory 47 in around 3.5. Wires almost fall thru the 47s due to the 1.5 bar size. Never do yaffes again.

No disrespect intended, HD dealers are no different than car dealers. But the owner of these facilities have so much overhead and cost to do business. They will be quoting higher prices to survive, just insurance alone has to be outrageous. Not to mention Harley requires dealers to upgrade the facility and they make no more $$ to do it.
Not a sermon , just a thought....
Keep in mind, when there is 15 inches of snow on the ground and no one is in the dealer, their expenses do not stop.

The first step towards a solution, is naming names.

OP, post the name of the dealer that quoted 10 hours.

Totally off topic, but along the same lines...back when the compensator problems reared its ugly head, a buddy of mine went to a dealer with his compensator issue under warranty. The dealer told him if he was willing to pay the difference, they would upgrade the compensator to the SE version instead of putting in a new stock comp. Knowing that HD has to put in the most up to date version of the part for warranty and knowing that the stock compensator had been obsoleted and was replaced with the SE compensator, I told him to tell the dealer to forget it and put in a new stock comp, knowing that they couldn't and knowing that even if they could, they wouldn't be able to find one. He got his SE comp without having to pay the upgrade. The sad part is, the dealer presumably profited off several that fell their scam.

Default This is why this forum is so helpful...

"They estimated 10 hours even without having to extend harnesses and change cables."

That's why most people here on this forum call them "STEALERSHIPS"!
