I had gotten a quote for about $1200 from an Indy, I just about fell over!! Ended up buying my Factory 47 14" bars in Vegas and did the install a little everyday after work, took my time got it done.
Couldn't be happier with the install knowing they came out to my specs! Wires were easy to run because of the 1.5" bars...Good luck OP!
I was at the dealer today and asked for a quote to install my 12" Factory 47 bars on my 2015 RGS. They estimated 10 hours even without having to extend harnesses and change cables. Is this nuts? What are other people getting for shop time for bar swaps?
Any maintenance done by the dealer, any dealer ie. auto, lawn mower, bicycle etc., will cost you. I had the same response when I was checking out installation costs. I did it myself and I'm glad I did. Take your time and be patient. Check out the Road Glide forum. Look through all of the posts for intell on this project. There are several people that have done this that are not certified tech's. I did my 2015 Road Glide. I installed the 12 inch Spooky Fast bars. No change in the clutch or break lines and the TBW & cruise control all fit well. Questions? Drop me a message.
Wow, on Seacoast as well. Good sized shop staff operation, a lot of police work.
Did you get a quote from Manchester ? Just wondering, bought my bike there.
The flat landers around me are having trouble getting anyone to do the swaps. Although that might be for the older bikes, not Rushmores. Or, staff hates doing it that much, they are charging thru the roof.
A friend did another friends 2010 RG, and the wrong harness- aftermarket -, pushed the job into the 10 hour range. A lot of time soldering.
I put 13" yaffe monkey bars on my 16 sgs in about an hour and a half. 45 minutes of that was the internal wiring for the bars. Its a simple job. I didn't know at the time that you don't even need the extensions for the wires. Now I do know. 13s are as far as you can go though as far as I can tell.
Seacoast own Boston Harley and that is where I got mine done at 8 or 9 hours, changed to internal wiring and changed to all braided cables. I thought that was high too at the time, but paid for half of it with the HD Visa rewards and got 20% discount off parts and labor so it wasn't as bit of a hit. For this area, Seacoast/Rochester/Boston Harley are pretty good for service, their hours for jobs aren't going to be low like an Indy, but their hourly shop rates aren't as high as other dealers either. Plus they have pretty good sales at times and if you're an MVP member there is a discount all the time.
