Default exhaust studs

I have a 2002 Electra glide classic, and just replaced the belt while putting the exhaust back on the rear jug I stripped a stud. How do I replace it? Thanks.

if the stud threads are stripped, you can get a big wrench ( like a pipe wrench which will increase clamping pressure with turning force) on it and turn it out- penetrating oil overnight might help- we hope NOT to break the stud off in the head.

IF you can break the stud loose and it feels stiff, come out, go back in a bit, come out etc etc...put a hand on it make sure it isn't getting too hot to touch- if so let it cool and come back after a break

With the head installed I think you will have a hard time getting a pipe wrench on it. I would get a rethreading die and try to repair enough of the thread to get 2 nuts on it tightened together. Then try to back the stud out of the head.

If the stud breaks "George's Garage" has a tool guide to drill it out. Not sure if the head has to come off to do it.

I was going to try the heat method first, before trying to rethread it first.

Get a stud extractor. Little thingy with a cam that grips a stud. Sears. lowes, etc... Then install a new one. Also try threading a jam nut on and see if you can unscrew the stud that way.

So tried welding a nut to the stuff and heating the jug up, no luck. Had anyone had luck with using a die on the stuff. I have enough left to use what is there but can't get the but started. In need of help on this.

I have to assume you mean the threads stripped right at the clamp area. If its not too late can you just put it back together and use either a real thick spacer/washer or combination to move the nut out on the stud to where the threads are still good? maybe use red loctite, which may aid in its removal down the road when you have to replace the stud.

Then you will need a 5/16-fine thread chaser or a die to clean up the threads.
