Default Decatt vs FM headers no o2 sensors

I have a FM Micro tuner on my 13 ultra with FM Pro touring muffs and a big ness AC. Some folks say the decatted stock headers mess with the o2 sensors but i am not using them. With the Micro tuner you disconnect the o2 sensors. So will it be ok to use a stock decatted header or spend the 400 to 500 on a FM header. Looking for a little less heat and little better throttle response. I cant understand how these bikes even run with that potato shoved into the header pipe.

me too. I ran a decatted stock headpipe the entire time I had my 2010. had the o2 sensors hooked up and got a great dyno tune from fuelmoto (with the 107 build) 99hp/125tq....

I have a 2013 with a decatted head pipe and Fuel Moto Power Commander V. Do not have the 02 sensors connected. The bike runs fine as does the wife's TriGlide with the same setup.

Fuel Moto used to have a Dyno run comparing their head pipe to a 2009 stock(no Cat) and there was 1/8 HP difference. Definitely not enough gain to justify the price.

I have a 14 SG with decatted head pipe and a micro tuner just like you do. Same air cleaner also. Runs great. Been like that for over 10K and no issues at all. Save the cash and buy some beers with it.

they also have one showing a cat headpipe vs no cat. virtually no difference there either, despite how restrictive the catalyst looks.

The only argument against decatted OEM head pipe is the "possible" cross talk between the O2 sensors.... since you're not using the O2 sensors, I would say it's not an issue...

FWIW..

I know it's counterintuitive, but that honey comb CAT doesn't cause as severe a restriction as most people think. I believe the muffler/baffle affect the performance & tune more than the CAT.

Case in point. I talked with FuelMoto about a tune for my cams/exhaust combo. I was running non OEM cams & mufflers, but still had the OEM headpipe. I told them I would eventually be getting their headpipe, just couldn't afford it right then. I was told they would send me the tune that would be real close. He mentioned that when I get their headpipe, I wouldn't need to retune....

I autotuned the tune they sent with the OEM headpipe. It averaged a 4% change with just a few cells approaching a double digit change.

When I eventually got their headpipe, I did a few more auto tune sessions. The average change was 3% with only one or two cells over 5%.

The tune didn't change much between the OEM headpipe and their headpipe. Their headpipe, however, is a work of art. With the loss of the cat AND the ceramic coating, it did affect the heat quite a bit.... not sorry I got their headpipe.

All I can say is; When I changed from my stock non-cat header to fullsac header (only change) the heat went way down and the power increase was noticeable. Your results may differ...

Not being a jerk, but I call BS on the cross talk. I have yet to see anyone complain about a cross talk issue with a de-catted head pipe. Just my .02!
