Default Replacing tail light lens without the window

I removed the tour pack on my Ultra and would like to replace my tail light lens with a solid red one. I've noticed some lay down replacements that require an LED bulb so it won't melt the lens. I was wondering what some of you have used ? I thought maybe it might be better to just get a stock solid lens. I'm guessing a Road King or Street Glide lens would work.

Custom Dynamics solves the problem. The cheap lay down lens will melt, the LED bulbs to prevent melting are crap. CD is what I did and happy with the result.

I went with the CD lay down, smoked, windowless tail light. I don't need a window as my license plate bracket had LED's built in it

You can use a HD part from a 2010+ road king- which is what I put on my 2009 FLHTC, the plate mount and plate light are integrated with the signal bar:

I later swapped to a BAL ( used, forum classifieds) and sold my solid top lens for about $30

BAL is a great upgrade

and also the run/turn/brake which has red lollipops

I bought a Street Glide take off tail light on eBay.

After being rear-ended at red lights twice in my life, I spent the money for a windowless BAL brake light when I removed my tour pack.

As ZenGlide did, I just got my hands on a smoked laydown BAL tail light. It has no window so I got a Custom Dynamics LED plate frame I'm going to wire in. Actually added CD led board for the fender tip and really added some light in the rear. Bike looks great with everything smoked, but, the BAL really gets attention.

The clear part of the rear light is to luminate the ID plate, which in some markets will be compulsory. If the plate is below the light then Mike's and 2kids3pets' solutions are just the ticket - for avoiding getting one!
