I've recently discovered that I need to be able to charge my phone/GPS while on the road. Riding for 10/12 hours my phone just wont stay charged for that long to keep me from getting lost.
HD makes the 91843-97
which looks like exactly what I need buuuuuut .... I don't want to mount it down on the side panel. I'd actually like it up on the handlebars somewhere so it's closer to my phone.
Anyone run across any handlebar mounting options for this unit that works?
I believe either Harley or Kuryakyn makes a chrome mounted one that mounts up on the or near the bars. If I recall right, there is an accessory plug near in the headlight nacelle that you can run via the accessory switch just below the bars. How's that for ambiguous information?
I have an '06 RK custom, and I just tapped into the hot wire going to the driving lights before the switch and bought a cheapie one from Wal mart. I have it all concealed in the Nacelle and have the GPS charger just permanently plugged in. Then I run the USB cable up to the bars and hook it in when I need it. That way I never have to worry about misplacing the damn USB cable. Has been on there for about 3 years and moisture hasn't affected it yet.
I bought one that you are supposed to mount in your saddlebag and didn't want to drill a hole so I mounted it under the flat stiffening plate under the seat pan, where the backbone meets the rear frame. Between the heat deflectors.
I used an old 12v car charger and wired it to the backside connection of my cigarette lighter inside the fairing and ran the wire up between the fairing and windshield right through the little grommet hole on the underside of my middle pouch on my windshield 3 pak. Invisible and I can plug my phone in while it's stored in my pouch. Can run pandora to my blueteooth for hours and never run out of juice! Cost: 45 minutes of time and 3 beers.
Check coming off the back of your headlight for 2 wires that are in a loom (???) together. One is orange/white stripe and the other is black, they probably already have a blade type connector on them. OR/W is positive, black is negative. If you headlight is on you have power, light off, no power. Bunch of us on this forum use this for charging/ powering devices. BTW, I also have the unit the op has pictured in my side panel. My bike is black and it's invisible there.....

Do you absolutely need the cig style power port? If not I run a plug-n-play USB power port from the ACC plug under my seat to my bars (nacelle). Very clean running along main harness.
