neither of his choices will self compensate for changes in elevation...tune for sea level and go to 4000' and you have a foul-mannered slug.
the stock keihin CV carb does self-compensate for changes in elevation and is easily tuned and modded...and cheap!

Then less an issue- but the CV carb is stock...so free.
$20 of jets and a needle will get the best out of the CV...and a double handful of smarts.
and the cables and manifold don;t need changing either.

I live at sea level in Savannah, and have ridden my Road King with the Mikuni 42 all over the Blue Ridge Parkway, etc. Never noticed any issues. Never ridden it in the Rockies, unfortunately...
I prefer it to the CV for its snappy response.
