Not sure why you'd say that there is no way to over torque them, put enough torque down and they will even snap.

As long as you don't have an exhaust leak you're fine. There's a chance you'll need to change the gaskets if you loosen and retorque them more loosely at this point because the gaskets will have formed indentations. The main thing is to make sure each stud is torqued evenly.

I broke one off on my FXR removing the exhaust. Snapped off like a dry twig. Never bothered to fix it, just installed new pipes and it was fine for years.

A seasoned wrench can tighten fasteners without a TW by feel from experience, it is another for folks to say screw the TW and go with German tight "goodentite". Ive seen the fallout from that kind of work. Thats another pitfall when you buy something used. The OP you only went over by 2 foot lbs so you are safe.

You didn't read what followed, use a 1/4" drive ratchet and the long (12" or so) extension. They are too small and long to apply a lot of torque and they are much easier to use to access the nuts.

Of course if you have arms like a gorilla you may be able to over torque but not normally. These are nuts that need tightened, not the space shuttle booster rockets attachment.

At the same time, there are torque wrench worshipers that continue tightening past the bolt twisting in two because they haven't heard the 'click" yet.

Most often heard from people tightening derby cover screws.

Most bolts on a bike have no need for a torque wrench. If u don't use a torque wrench everyday.......don't. If you don't own a very expensive torque wrench .....don't. If u don't know inch pounds from ft lbs. don't!! Torque cylinder heads. Comp nut..and that's all. No broken bolts ever. Good practice on torque with these farm tractors we all think are hi tech . Put your thumb over nut while holding wrench. Tighten bolt . Unless your a gorilla your never gonna stretch / break a bolt. Common sense is hard to teach.
Aircraft mechanic don't bother......these are NOT hi tech iron. Lmao. Also don't recheck until it's cold...

You're alright. Those values you torqued to aren't all that far off. It IS possible to over torque them though. Makes it hell to get them loose if you ever need to. But it takes a lot of force to do that.

Most cheap torque wretches are not very accurate and the expensive ones need calibrated every so often to work correctly.
