Good afternoon,1st time on site so bear with me,I am 68 lived in Illinois all my life except for 2 yrs.Uncle Sam thought he needed me. I've been riding 51yrs. unless some cager kills me before next month.The question I have is what is the performance increase on a 2014 flhtcu with a Screaming Eagle breather and a stage1upgrade and anyone consider it worth it?
I haven't done it on an 08, but on my 09 softail, the increase was whopping 5 horsepower according to the dyno sheets I got when they did it. I was pretty disappointed. Maybe I was expecting too much. As far as the bike running cooler, I hear that all of the time and it's true but relative. It's still an air cooled engine and it's going to be hot as hell under you.
The Stage I upgrade basically puts the motor's air/fuel ratio where the engineers designed the motor to run before the EPA restrictions come into play. It basically runs better and cooler.
Personally, I agree with the 'go stage I' crowd. But, not every rider cares nor wants anything more than the OEM ride.
We ride regularly with a group of 12-14 couples and only three of us do any performance mods at all. The others are perfectly satisfied to ride what the factory shipped to the dealer with maybe a set of slipons, if that.
I just can't ride a 'choked' engine.... too many years building SB Fords and Chevy's so many years ago... I want to know that the metallic piece of artistic sculpture I'm riding is 'breathing' the way it should...
Of course we always fed our registered quarter horse paints the best we could as well... just can't help it.
Actually the '14up air cleaners are pretty good. There is no/little gain changing it for "stage 1". Your biggest gain will be a proper tune, not a dealer download.
