maybe I was unclear when i say the travel is compromised- i am comparing the 12" to 13" showa air shocks.
12" shocks have 1.75 inches of travel from stop to stop
the 13's have an additional inch of travel- that allows the dampening to occur over a longer distance and over more time- this results is a smoother ride and the shocks are more likely to ride in the areas between stops, less likely to "top out" or "bottom out".
that gives you an idea of what to expect when comparing 12" to 13" showa air shocks.
I would extrapolate that the 12" hand adjustables would have a similar deficiency compared to the 13" hand adjustables ( which i am now running) as any damping has to happen sooner and in less distance.

All the talk about 13s threw me off. FLHX comes stock with 12s. Of course upgrading to 13s would be better, but going with 12 coils over the 12 airs shouldn't give me any less travel but will handle better, hopefully. haha
