does anybody have 1 of the seats above and can give me pros and cons of the seat and the company. I am leaning towards 1 or the other as the LePera Maverick seat I bought last fall with rider/passenger gel just isn't working for my wife or myself after 1000 miles of break-in.
I had the HD Sundowner for appr 5 years and it was time to replace it so I bought a Saddleman Explorer G-Tech which my wife loved, tried it for 3 months riding to TX and back to IL, but it was causing me pain in inner thighs, so I returned it to the vendor. I had moved the tour pak back 2 inches for more room and raised it up an inch with the George Anderson re-locator, now with the LePera seat its too far back and too high as its not as thick as the Saddleman was. The ride yesterday, appr 350 miles was very uncomfortable for my wife and even myself with tailbone pain and she felt like she was half sitting on the seat.
I saw the Day Long seat on a buddys bike, they love it, looks crazy, Danny Gray is supposed to come out with the tourIST seat with a riders back rest this spring, waiting on that OR the Day Long seat but I will have to buy a used seat as they rebuild it on your seat pan. If I go the route of the Day Long seat....they modify your seat to your height/weight/inseam and how you ride, so do I buy a used Sundowner seat like we used to have or just any touring seat to take pictures on?
I cannot recommend Danny Gray but if ya can get over the looks, I have never heard anything but high praise on day long. Choice of the iron butt guys...
I have a Russell day long seat with backrest on my bike. Never thought I'd ever find a seat that worked but this one sure does. Rode from Wyoming to the Monterey Bay Area in a day without issue. Fuel and go.
Russell saddles are the royals Royce of saddles and as they say all day comfort You can ride all day day in and day out. The only draw back is some short people may have to slide forward a bit to get their feet down as it is a little wider. If you are a long distance rider you are buying the best
I have a Russel Day Long on my 2012 road king, this seat wraps around and cradles your behind. The wife likes it also, we had a mustang super touring now in the attic, great seat but it just did not work for us. We have the day long now and can ride fill up to fill up. Best seat I have ever had, pricey but worth it for us.
I have the Danny Grey with the built in Air Hawk and the seat is awesome. It's pricey
but worth it if your looking for leg room and low profile. Wife and I tried The new style
Sundowner and it sits you up higher and right on the tank. She liked it and I hated it.
She lost it's my ride....
for those that commented on the day long seat, can you post a close up picture of the seat, and what options did you get when you ordered it. or IF you have the Danny Gray seat which model is it you have?

If you go to the Russell day long site, there is a bunch of photo's of seats in the Harley gallary, In case you didn't know
Here is a couple of pics of my Day Long seat. They custom make the seat based on pictures you send, I had it made for a backrest. Mine is the halfmoon stitch, cover is a marine grade vinyl. I did not need the additional support in the seat, if you or your passenger is over a certain weight they add addition support to which seat needs the support.
