Like giving an enema to a dead man. It might not do any good but it sure can't hurt.
Hmm. Isn't that what Dr. Frankenstein said?
I have had new batteries which hit full charge immediately with my Batteryminder, and ones that charged for 24 hours, so I think it is good to charge fully, if possible.
My local battery shop told me it's no necessary to condition the new Deka battery I bought for my old bike. I put it to use right away, and it was good for 3+ years and was still good when I traded it in.
can't hurt it if it's on a tender, I wouldn't put it on a charger in fear of "over charging" it.
To be honest it's not really the batt you should worry about.
Good idea to fully charge. But it's not helping or hurting it. It is how ever not good for your charging system or starting system to have a batt that's not up too full charged. If u have too put a new batt in and ride go for it. But try to make it a long ride. There is No memory in and acid battery like nicad and others
OK, thanks fellas, I'm going to slap it in this evening and let it charge over night
An alternative is to put it on the bike and ride for a tankful, so the bike charges it up. Frequent short rides will certainly do a new battery more harm than good. Despite tha packaging often telling us a new battery is 'fully charged', they are not, although they can be pressed into use if necessary.
