Don't get hung up about the precise quantity, just make sure you have enough oil to hand, which a fresh bottle will provide. Then fill to the correct level, as shown by Mike above. The quantities in the manual are only for guidance, the correct level is the final decider!
Btw,,,I have found the best thing to put under the bike when you are going to do something messy is a couple of puppy training pads. They are very absorbent and don't leak through. You can buy them at any pet store.
