Remember you will be doing a dry fill the first time. The narrow primary is a 34 oz wet fill. Filled with bike straight up. The larger cover is the reason.
If I replace my narrow cover with a standard cover on my 16 limited , is it still 34 ounces?
So how much fluid to you add? Notice another poster referred to a "wet fill" v a "dry fill." I don't want to over or under fill. And I don't know how to check the primary level.
does a dry fill apply to the primary case? (if that makes sense)
there is no filter in a primary chamber.
it would take some oil to lube clutch basket and chain but, very little.
maybe ask the people you got the smaller outer primary cover from, they should know. maybe the company that makes the cover you bought.
I did the same swap on my SG. I needed to go and purchase a long ball end allen set to take off the left passenger pegs so I would not damage the chrome on the peg. Replace the primary gasket and derby gasket as well.
When ever I pull the case off the primary I use a throw away aluminum baking sheet (cookie). buy them in packs of three a my local grocery store. Make real cheap drip pans for other mechanical items.
Use a long piece of Kitchen aluminum foil. Hang it over the frame rail (which is right under the primary) and form it to funnel all the dripping oil into an standard plastic car oil collection pan.
Do all my customers service this way. Never ANY mess.
