No speedometer
I just sold a 2003 Electra Glide Ultra for a lady whose husband passed away. It has 51000 miles and has been solidly maintained. The guy took it yesterday and was very happy. Bike ran great. He called back late in the day with bike still running good but has no speedometer or odometer and check engine light is on. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Mine is a carb model so not familiar with the computer side. Thanks. I will go over today and check fuses to get things started.

Fuses blow for a reason. I have to think that just replacing a blown fuse is not an answer.

Another possibility is the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) depending on the exact symptoms. Usually when it craps out it won't idle well because the computer doesn't know when its moving etc... Sometimes the sensor can just be pulled out and cleaned off (metal shavings).

If the CEL is on he has codes that may well point him to the problem. Have him pull the codes.

Thanks for all of the input. Checked all fuses and all good. Today bike started showing all of the symptoms of a bad vss. Cruise doesnt work, turn signals dont self cancel and started to idle rough as all of you said were signs. Will pick up new vss tomorrow and post the results. Thanks again.
