was riding this weekend and my speedometer started bouncing then finally went to zero and odometer quit also ,got to my daughters and looked around for possible short ,bike set for about 3 hours and we headed home it worked fine for about 20 miles then quit again ,my engine light came on ,everything else is working fine is there anything i can check without taking it to the stealer ? oh yea it's a 03 ultra

Speed sensor on top of transmission.

Pull it out and see if covered with metal filings.

If it is clean it and give a whirl but you will probably need a new one.

I had the same problem.. it was a broken wire. I checked the wires for grounds and rang them out with ohm meter. It broke right before it goes under the tank from the sensor side.
