There is always something else involved. And sometimes mere mortals have accidents.
You're not even comparing apples to apples. What you experienced was hardly a "one vehicle" accident, my Friend. So I reiterate, in a 1 vehicle accident, it's ALWAYS the driver/rider's fault. Don't believe me, just ask your insurance agent.
Road rash with jacket and chaps? Where is it at? Crashed mine last Oct and with the exception of the busted leg no road rash. Slide on the mesh jacket for 30 feet or so.
Sorry didn't mean to start an argument, just asking! Next time I'll keep it to myself!
Her jacket slid up and exposed her lower back! Her knee was from impact on pavement so not really road rash! The mesh jacket was not torn where her elbow was but apparently the pad shifted which caused the injury to her elbow!
It was her fault not arguing that!

NO, you didn't start an argument at all! This is a discussion between people with different opinions, and I think that considering the subject, it's not only important, but it also makes for a good/informative forum.
It sounds like your OL might want to wear her gear a little tighter, though. There would be less chance of it moving around on impact.
To the original question. No. I have been considering a pair of mesh riding pants that I could slip on over shorts. I personally am not a fan of riding in 90+ degree heat and usually only ride in the evenings during the summer.
I've had one mc crash when I was young. My hands got the worse of it.
Very thankful your wife is ok. That would terrify me to see mine get hurt or worse.
Right now I'm not sure any of us will be riding at all! Dam scary when you look in your mirror and see the bike going one way and a loved one laying in the interstate and people just serving around her instead of stopping! Course my instincts kicked in and I flipped a u turn and drove right back into coming tragic and placed my bike about 10' behind her to block traffic!
A trucker stopped to control traffic and another man (paramedic) stopped to administrate 1st aid. The last she hit stopped and that was all!
I don't understand how this country has little to no concern for their fellow human beings anymore!!!!!!
Sorry to hear about your wife. In my sportbike and track day days I learned real fast to make sure I have correct fitting gear. If wearing a mesh jacket make sure it isn't too big and those arm straps are pulled tight. Most of the time jackets also have belt loops towards the back area. Leather jackets are a bit easier and I usually just make sure they are somewhat tight fitting. I wear a full face helmet all the time and even the helmets need to fit somewhat tight. That helmet will try to spin around your head in a crash/slide and if its a lose fit then all that's preventing the spin is the chin strap.
Most guys I ride with now are cruiser type motorcycles and often times they go for comfort which I can understand but just seen to many injuries to dress for the bbq. Road rash
I'm pretty much an ATGATT guy - but there are levels. I'm not going to ride around in a full leather racing suit with a full face helmet. Living in Las Vegas many of the months are hot so its pure mesh. Safe? Who knows. I was just thinking about it this weekend while on the ride - looking at my mesh pants with hip pads and knee armor. Better than nothing I guess and fairly comfortable. I always wear my Shoei J-Cruise 3/4

Ok, I'll play. My wife was hit by a Moose in Vermont a few years ago. We always ride ATGATT. How was that one her fault ? She didn't hit the Moose, she was nearly stopped and the Moose ran her over. Her only injury was a broken pinkie and a broken toe when the Moose stepped on her full leather riding boot. Bike didn't fare so well, $7000 damage from the Moose stepping on it and getting entangled.
Even in the heat of summer we wear armored mesh riding jackets, gloves and full face helmets.
