Default Seat Problem for Sturgis

So I am making the trip to sturgis this year, looking forward to meeting some of y'all there.

My issue is this, my seat currently is no good. I'm on the le Pera bare bones solo which is great for around town and such, but I refuse to ride from Phoenix to sturgis on it.

I sat on a 2015 cvo road king seat that was at the shop and I loved it. It felt great and I fit perfectly on it. I'm a shorter guys So the super thick seats aren't going to work. Also, I need a solo seat that I can just put a back pillion on.

My biggest question is if there is anything aftermarket similar to the 2015 cvo road King seat that anyone is aware of? I red to get one in the next week or so and really have no idea what to look at. I would like a leather seat but as long as it looks nice and is a solo I will manage. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

...get an ultra seat and do 500 mile days.
you can get one on craigslist cheap- and if you worry about feet on teh ground- on a 500 mile day, your feet touch the ground about 6 times- you are stopping every 3 hours for gas, the rest of the time you are rolling

ups your solo seat to sturgis if you want it there

you would not believe the business rapid city HD does in seats at sturgis.... they also take in trades on sportys and dynas and softail and sell lots of touring bikes.

alot of guys head out unprepared. ( they also sell alot of tires, oil filters etc)...some guys spend their rally waiting at the service dept for the stuff they could have done before leaving home

before I go I do 300/400 mile day rides to make sure that the bike and me are up to it

1st day should get you up to durango or pagosa springs, 2nd day past cheyenne, gets you into sturgis noon the 3rd day ( even though there may be a crowd- STOP for gas in Lusk WY- gas stations are few on that road)

mike

Unless I missed it, you don't say what bike/year you ride. I've got an Ultimate Mid-rider that should fit any 2009-2013 touring bike. It comes with a rider back rest and attached storage pouch. Here's a link:

If you have any interest, PM me.

I agree with the suggestion above for a stock ultra seat.

When I take road trips I use a small sheepskin cover. This helps cut down moisture (perspiration) from your skin and it reduces vibration and fatigue on long rides. A cotton hand towel does the trick, too.

I too will be riding to Sturgis this year. For me it's 3 600 mile days in a row, coming from NC. I ride a 2012 FLHTK with a HD Hammock seat. I've had it about 10,000 miles and it's GREAT. I've ridden to Daytona and Myrtle Beach several times without any discomfort. I also suggest a good backrest. Also a friend that will be riding out with me rides a 2012 SG with a Mustang seat, backrest and removable passenger pillon. He really likes it. Good luck, maybe I'll see you in Sturgis.

I always ride straight thru from KC to Sturgis. About 800 miles give or take 20 miles. I used to ride a Corbin dual tour but lately its been hurting my buttt checks. I have ripped the rear pockets off my jeans and have gone commando. But that Corbin just didn't workout anymore. I got a Harley riders only hammock and that's my long distance seat now. I suggest going to a HD dealer and use the demo program and try some seats. A stock Ultra seat is a 100 mile seat to me. I'll probably be selling my Dual tour at some point but it is a better looking seat.

i bought this seat for my bike while waiting for my corbin... road it 2700 to yosemite , northern nevada and back home with 90% comfort ,,, not as comfortable as my corbin though... but it looked really nice....i just did about 2600 miles through wyoming, montana and idaho , a 14 hr day was no issue second to last day out i did 700 and could have done a thousand except for the dark and cold.... oh, and that Harley seat is almost identical to the CVO seat but in vinyl

I rode a 2006 Nightrain for 22 days on my trip to Sturgis (and a bunch of other places). I used a HD sundowner seat which I had an upholstery shop insert a waffle gel (used on hospital beds) pad into the seat by cutting out some of the foam and restitching the seat cover. I had no issues at all. You used to be able to get the gel pads in a square that could be cut down to fit from Softbottom motorcycle seat pads, but I don't think that they are in business anymore.

I rode a rigid, with a piece of sheet metal wrapped in leather for a "seat" , to Sturgis and back, 5-6 times... I don't know what y'all bitching about...

That said, I much prefer the Tallboy seat on my SG now...
