Default Shoulder issues From Ohio

Question!!!!
I've owned a UltraGlide for 4 years now and this year I've been having Shoulder issues after I've been riding on the weekends. Having a hard time lifting my Left arm over my head. After about 2 days into the week. My Wife and I have a planned 900 mile Round trip to Hershey Pa in a few weeks. Any Ideas would be helpful, Thank you

I'm 75 with arthritis and nerve damage in my joints particularly my left shoulder. I do 30 to 40K miles touring each year.

Other than not lifting my arm above my head and occasionally taking Aleve, I just live with it. Cold, rain, wind and suffering are part of the motorcycle experience.

One can look out the window and watch life go by or get out there and lead the charge. Your shoulder will bother either way.

Try physical therapy, maybe they can give you a cortisone shot.

really not enough time to try new bars - I am on my 4th bike since 96 - I am a short rider and bars have always been an issue with a new bike.. this time I went with the Helibars - expensive but Wow,, adj in MANY ways to fit anyone.. might help you, but not on this trip.

try to rest when you can.. do you have cruise control??

anti-imflams such as naproxen (Aleve) or ibuprofen (Advil) and ice packs when you get a chance at the end of the day. If it's arthritic there's not a lot to be done. If it's positional than ergonomic setup will help....a lot. Let me ask 2 questions. Do you feel you are reaching too much for the grips? Do you get any lower back pain or have you tried a rider back rest?

You may need treatment in the short-term, but longer term something needs to change regarding your riding position. I also had shoulder problems with my Glide on longer trips. These days it is fashionable to change bars, several times if 'necessary', but at the time of my problems I simply set about adjusting my stock bars. I came to realise they were originally set a little high, making me lift my shoulders very slightly, instead of being able to relax properly. It took me several attempts to get them right, but then voila! I've been fine ever since and have done some very long trips without any discomfort.

Unless any of these people on here who provided advice are orthopedic surgeons, I'd disregard and see my own doctor and/or orthopedic surgeon for diagnosis.

I got the adjustable Helibar bars for my Limited. I had similar pain issues. The ability to move the bars exactly where you need them really helps.

Good advice here ... I had MAJOR shoulder surgery several years ago and now it's better than new. Get an evaluation and some clarity. Good Luck. :>)

I'm with the OP on this one. I also have shoulder pain, probably from lifting weights for 30+ years, with my left one being the worst. And it's been this way for many years. Going out last Sunday, it wasn't feeling good about 20 minutes into the ride. Muscle rubs and patches don't help because it's the joint, not the muscle.

I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what he and others have done...beside an operation.
