I've been considering chrome 12 point bolts. They wouldn't strip as easy and might look pretty sharp.

Id advise against chrome bolts. I went with polished ARP 12 point stainless. American made and grade 8 and flawless. Check out alloyboltz.com the bolts they supply have the correct length shoulders too, unlike Gardner-Westcott.
I went with chrome Allen's back on my first bike, they will rust and look like crap and a bitch to clean. Mine was garage kept, never saw rain, but the water laid in there after washing and the socket holes rusted.
As far as the theory this or that is BS! There's 5 contact points on an Allen and the Torx has more, I think its 8 but I'm not by my tools at the moment. That is, if you use the right tool.
Will use my favorite left hand drills. All cover bolts were stupid tight. My 1/4" Snap on ratchet was not happy on the first 4. As the bolts broke free, the ratchet came out of gear. Does not appear to have lock tight on the bolts. I have not drained the primary, always do the cover first. Looking for replacement bolts and primary gasket.
Torx are better fasteners but if your Torx bit is not good quality, you'll strip'em all day long. I'll admit though, I always change the primary cover bolts to stainless Allen button bolts and I never torque them.
