Default Pre-Rushmore LED conversion.

My buddy has a 2012 Limited. It's got the same headlight bucket as the new bikes that use the standard, non LED lights. I talked him into the Fuel Moto H9/H11 LED bulb upgrade a while back, and he love's the improvement. Last weekend we were out and I noticed his low beam goes OUT when you turn on the high beam. I checked a 2014 with the same headlight bucket, and BOTH are lit with the high beam on.

An electrician, I am not! What is the best way to make his '12 light up both bulbs on high beam??? Cause we checked, and on my Pre-Rushmore 2013 Road King, both low and high on my OPT 7 LED bulb are lit on high. And he would very much like both to work on his '12. Especially given his back in the sticks homestead. Is there a harness to buy? Wires to solder?

Please advise.

I would check the voltages in the socket when the Hi beams are switched on. If both are hot, then the problem is in the aftermarket LED bulb.

couple of ways to do it.

I added a switch that keeps my low beam on when the high beam is on.

there is a thread where buelligan666 and I run through a couple of different wiring schemes- for lighting we decided against using a diode as a diode will drop the voltage by about 9%

I don;t solder wires on vehicles, the joints will fail over time due to vibration

nice diagram- but not what he was asking

--- he wants Hi and Low together, not passing lamps and hi

It seems as though pre '14 dual bulb lamp - low beam is off when high beam is on, Rushmore dual bulb allows for both the bulbs to light when high beam is on....guess that answers my question when I looked it up last night on HD. They were advertising Rushmore lighting and talking about dual lamps and I was thinking BFD if they had dual halogens prior to Rushmore anyways....Guess the Rushmore lamp is different after all

Rushmore ( 2014+) uses a CANBUS electrical system in which the loads are controled by relays and logic circuits- computer driven- some options need to be enabled by the dealer.

for instance certain lighting features may be turned on or off depending on local or DOT regs

Oh cool. I know nothing of the Rushmore system...So the headlamp is the same headlamp but the CANBUS supplies power to both bulbs when set at high beam vs the headlamp wiring. So with that '14 SGS lamp going in my '11 RK...I WILL need to do a modification to power the lower bulb with high beam on....the lamp will not come pre-wired or whatever. That clears up a bunch of confusion I had.
