Long Island
Keep the rubber side down......
East end is a nice place to ride, both North and South fork if you know the roads that keep you out of traffic. Lots of farms, vineyards, mariners, nice stretches along the ocean. The wife and I take a ride every weekend morning out to our favorite old style eatery on the north fork for breakfest, usually followed by a ferry across to Shelter Island, a cruise around the island (love the look on all the faces as me and the misses tool by on the hog), another ferry across to the south fork and Sag Harbor, and then a nice ride back home.
The south shore between Robert Moses SP and Jones Beach is nice as well, and theres always estate cruising in Sands point or out east in Sagaponack to see what $10, 20, 30M will buy ya!
There are alot of crazy cagers though. I ride alot to Brooklyn (work) from Suffolk County, that's alittle nuts, but gotta ride or I'll be sitting in rush hour traffic watching all the scooters go by cursing myself. Makes you a good defensive rider!
Dealers all are MSRP and don't do much for ya in my opinion. They are all good people though, just exploiting what the market allows.
Ride on! Be ezzz!
I never get anything over stock, no acc., no extended, no service plans, and do all my own wrenchin. Every bike I've owned had it's qwerks, but alittle time and I'm comfortable do'in about anything, may just have to read alittle or get schooled by some ol'timer. They can sure get ya to spend though if your someone that isn't willing to turn a wrench and do your own work.
Hope your recovery is a speedy one!
Take it ezz

I've witnessed some of the drivers and am not sure how safe I'd feel on the bike. I lived in Saudi Arabia for a couple of years. Now you want to see CRAZY drivers!!!!!
