Default Winsheild height

09 Ultra - I have a 10" windsplitter and my head is completely above the windshield so the wind noise and buffeting is quit severe
I see a lot of adds for 14" windshields but concerned about whether they do the job
Could i have some Pictures and personal experience from those that have these

Thanks

Dave

Any of the bigger windshield makers have sizing charts and instructions on their sites. I bought an LRS recurve and used their sizing instructions. But, a rule of thumb is when sitting in your usual riding position you want to be looking just over the top of the shield when looking about 50' ahead.

I have LRS recurve and measured the tip of shield to be at nose level or so. Perfect for me. One note on the recurves though. it allows you to have a slightly shorter shield and not be bothered by wind. Rain does not abide the law of the recurve and therefore still smacks you in the kisser.

Total agreement here. I have an LRS recurve which places the top of the shield between my nose and upper lip. I have the same or less wind buffeting as I did with the stock windshield (wasn't much) but now I don't have to look through the shield, making the ride much better! Very happy with the LRS recurves.

Any PICS of the LRS 14" recurve on a batwing fairing - the website only pictures the 10 "

=================

I also have an 09 ultra that used to have same buffeting issues,i installed a taller 14" windscreen like you mentioned which helped but wasn't a total fix because it was only part of the buffeting issue.

I didnt get shorter 12'" screen because yes it deflects air over the helmet but the problem is at times you still get hit with stones, lrg bugs and even rain when it rains hard enough .

What some people consider down side to that is i have to clean the widnscreen more often so i carry plexi/plastic windscreen cleaner (without amonia!) & a clean cotton t-shirt on board to clean as required.

I also put a hvy coat on car wax on the windscreen often which really helps protect it & extends it's srvc life too.

I have approx 12k miles on the current windscreen and it still looks like new cleaning & waxing it often, takes 1 min to clean it daily & 2.5-3mins to apply the wax ,let dry, then buff off with a clean cotton T-shirt 1x wkly.

I prefer that over getting hit with larger heavier crap or hvy rain too heavy to all be forced up & over the helmet.

And i dont mind looking thru it because i keep it clean and its mfg'd of high quality material so is crystal clear to look thru.

But keep in mind it's not only the short widscreen adding to buffeting issues because there is also quite a lot of air thats coming from below front forks and around the side of front forks too with the air from both those areas then coming up & over fuel tank slamming your chest and in some cases up into your face & helmet too.

I fixed that with this 3 pc air deflector kit that takes approx 15-20 ins to install.

Below i pasted a link to the kit and if link doesnt work i also included the eBay item number:151516356163 to search.

There are pic's included in the link showing what the deflectors look like on an HD,you can barley tell they are on the bike.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151516356163...MakeTrack=true

So do all the above and your buffeting issues will be corrected.

Scott

I'm not tall at 5'8", but I'm short of torso - I was looking thorough the stock 14" shield that came on my Limited just above half way up it. No buffeting with that shield, as it came to almost the top of my helmet.

I can't stand looking through the shield though, so I swapped it for a 7" LRS Ultra. This shield is slightly shorter than recommended (8" probably would be right between my lips and nose) - I get a small amount of buffeting if I sit up very straight, but in my normal riding posture the turbulence is just above my head. Definitely happy with this choice.

May not be so great for my wife (haven't had a chance to try it out 2-up yet thanks to life craziness) as she is nearly as tall as I am and taller in the torso - If she really hates it, I'll throw the 14 back on for long trips.
